Refugi del Coll Baix
Description
Refugi del Coll Baix is a mountain refuge and hiking area in the municipality of Alcúdia, Mallorca, reached via a demanding trail that leads down to a secluded bay.
Hiking to a Wild Bay
The walk to Refugi del Coll Baix and Platja des Coll Baix is no gentle stroll. A broad track leads away from the car park before narrowing into a rocky path, with the final stretch requiring sure footing and a good head for heights — sturdy footwear is absolutely essential. Stick to the trail and you'll be rewarded with crystal-clear turquoise water, breathtaking views over the bay and coastline, and a quiet, unspoilt natural setting. Free-roaming goats are a regular sight along the route and down on the beach itself.
The Refuge
The refuge serves as a rest stop before or after the descent and ascent. It isn't permanently accessible — visitors have found it locked on occasion. The operator, the Govern de les Illes Balears, can be reached via caib.es for up-to-date information.
Location & Getting There
The address is Collet del Coll Baix, 07400 Alcúdia. The access road to the car park is narrow, rough, and riddled with potholes, and parking spaces are limited. Beyond the car park, the only way forward is on foot. If you'd rather not drive, the bay can also be reached by boat.
Who Is It For?
The terrain is suited to fit, sure-footed walkers in sturdy shoes. The route is not suitable for families with very young children, older visitors, or anyone who struggles with heights. Waymarking is patchy in places, and straying from the path can easily lead to getting lost. For experienced hikers in search of solitude and unspoilt nature, this is a truly special destination.
