Reserva Natural de s'Albufereta
Description
The Reserva Natural de s'Albufereta is a protected wetland reserve in Alcúdia, best known as a prime birdwatching destination.
Birdlife and Nature
The birds are the beating heart of s'Albufereta. Flamingos are the headline attraction, but the wetland is also home to great egrets, grey herons, black-winged stilts, avocets, cormorants, ducks and birds of prey. The birdwatching infrastructure is well developed, with several viewpoints — including raised hides and enclosed observation shelters — dotted along the paths. Binoculars are a must, as the birds can be quite far off depending on water levels.
Trails and Facilities
A circular trail runs through the reserve and is manageable even in the heat. Facilities include an interpretation centre and well-maintained observation hides. The site is freely accessible. The path is less suitable for pushchairs due to uneven surfaces and narrow passages.
Location and Getting There
The nature reserve is located at Ctra. Port Pollença 61 in Alcúdia, on the road between Alcúdia and Port de Pollença.
Photography and Atmosphere
The combination of wetland scenery and the mountains in the background makes s'Albufereta a sought-after spot for photography. Sunsets and the reflections on the water are particularly rewarding subjects. Quiet and stillness define the experience — noise will startle the wildlife and reduce your chances of close sightings.
