Description
The Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Puig is a 14th-century sandstone monastery perched on the summit of Puig de Maria, high above Pollença.
The Sanctuary
This medieval sandstone monastery crowns the top of Puig de Maria. The courtyard and outer grounds are open to visitors, though the monastery building itself is closed and cannot be toured.
The Ascent and Path
The footpath winds its way up through shaded, wooded terrain in a series of switchbacks. The climb is steep and demanding, and the final stretch consists of loose stones — sturdy footwear is absolutely essential. That same section calls for sure footing on the way back down, too. Once at the top, you're rewarded with sweeping views across Pollença, the coastline, and the surrounding mountains. The courtyard offers benches and picnic spots to sit and take it all in. Goats are a common sight along the path and at the summit.
Location & Getting There
The sanctuary sits above Pollença (07460). Parking is available in Pollença, where free spaces can be found — the ascent on foot begins from there.
