Description

S'Arenal (07579) is an unspoilt beach on Mallorca — expansive, peaceful and well away from the crowds.

Pure nature, no promenade

What makes S'Arenal special is largely what it doesn't have: no hotels on the horizon, no promenade, and barely any bustle. The beach sits within an untouched natural landscape of dunes, vegetation and rocks. The water is turquoise and clear, the entry shallow and sandy — you can wade out a long way. There are sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and the bay to take in as well. Naturism is practised here to varying degrees, from partial to full, and it's very much part of the beach's identity; if that's not for you, it's worth bearing in mind before you visit. At either end of the beach you'll find a handful of places to eat and drink.

Seagrass: the honest truth

S'Arenal is a natural beach — and that means seagrass. It can accumulate in considerable quantities along the shoreline and in the water, particularly in summer and early autumn. Ecologically it's entirely intentional, as it binds the sand and protects the coastline, but it can make swimming uncomfortable in affected spots. Walk a little further along the beach and you'll usually find cleaner stretches.

Wind, waves & water

When the wind picks up, S'Arenal produces a decent swell — surfboards and kite equipment are a common sight here. There's no hire available close by, so if you're planning to surf or kite, bring your own kit.

Getting there & access

The beach falls under postcode 07579. Driving directly to the beach isn't always possible — the access track is sometimes blocked by locked barriers marked 'Camino privado' (private road). The usual approach is on foot from Son Serra de Marina along the coast. Parking is available in Son Serra de Marina.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is S'Arenal officially a naturist beach?
The beach is widely regarded as naturist-friendly — that's consistently how visitors describe it, and most are perfectly comfortable with it. If it's not your thing, another beach might be a better fit.
Can I drive directly to the beach?
Not always. The access track is sometimes closed off (private road, barrier in place). The standard approach is to walk from Son Serra de Marina along the coast.
Are there any facilities at the beach?
There are a few places to eat and drink at either end of the beach, and showers are available. Beyond that, the beach is deliberately kept natural with minimal infrastructure.
