Description

S'Estany de Canyamel is a wetland nature reserve in Capdepera, on the eastern coast of Mallorca, formed at the mouth of a seasonal stream.

Nature at the stream's edge

Where the torrente meets the sea, a small but surprisingly rich wetland has taken shape, teeming with wildlife and plant life. Ducks and geese are right at home here, and information boards dotted around the site bring the local flora and fauna to life — a genuinely peaceful spot that stands in quiet contrast to the busy tourist scene nearby.

Finding your way there

The reserve is located at Via Dones d'Aigua 113 in Capdepera (07589). Early risers will often find joggers making the most of the tranquil morning atmosphere.

Condition of the paths

The wooden boardwalks that wind through the wetland are in a poor state of repair in places and do not appear to be maintained on a regular basis. It's worth coming prepared — sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
