Sicilian Delicacies sits on Avinguda de Bèlgica in the middle of Cala d'Or, across from the minigolf, and holds two Italian kitchens together in one room: the dough comes from Naples, the counter from Sicily. The house describes its own concept as Italian street food to take away, and that is exactly how to read it — things here get wrapped, not plated up. The name is not just a label. The menu carries things you rarely find outside Sicily: pitone, arancini in five fillings, a panino con panelle and cannoli. Alongside them stands the Neapolitan pizza that guests come back for, and a counter of pizza al taglio. Sicilian street food at Sicilian Delicacies At the top of the menu sits the pitone, a fried calzone from Messina: a half-moon of dough, sealed into a rope along its curve and fried to a deep gold. There are two versions. The Pitone Classico is filled with tomato, mozzarella and cooked ham, the Pitone Messinese with tomato, escarole and mozzarella. Escarole, the broad-leaved chicory, is what gives the Messinese its name — and it turns up twice on this menu. The arancini follow in five versions: with ragù and mozzarella, with ham and mozzarella, with sobrasada and hot pepper, with pistachio and béchamel, with salmon and béchamel. The one with sobrasada is the most interesting of the row — a Mallorcan spreading sausage inside a Sicilian rice ball. That combination can only exist in one place. Then there is the panino con panelle, a roll filled with flatbreads of chickpea flour. This is Palermo pure and simple, the city's oldest street food, and a genuine rarity on Mallorca. To finish, cannoli siciliani, filled either with ricotta or with pastry cream. Neapolitan pizza and pizza al taglio The second half of the house is Neapolitan. Guests describe the rim as well handled: crisp outside, soft within, with a proof you can taste. Whole pizzas can be ordered to take away. If you would rather buy by the piece, the trays of pizza al taglio are there in the display — a margherita, a capricciosa, a messinese with escarole and a norma with aubergine. The trays are divided into pieces and passed across the counter. The house runs this display under the double name focaccia and pizza al taglio, which describes the thicker, airier dough well. Vegetarian eating is properly covered, and vegan versions exist too. Take away, have it delivered, or stay Collection and delivery are the core of the operation, and the house can be reached through the local delivery services. If you would rather stay, you can: there are seats indoors and outdoors. Wine and beer are on hand, dogs are welcome, and access is step-free. All told, Sicilian Delicacies is more shop than restaurant — a counter, an oven, a fryer.
