The Torre del Homenaje is the free-standing north tower of the Castell de Bellver and a historic landmark in Palma.
The Tower and Its Context
The Torre del Homenaje follows the circular lines of the wider Bellver complex, forming a distinctive, self-contained structure in its own right. The tower holds a particularly significant historical role within the Castell de Bellver: this is where the castle's captains swore their oath of allegiance to the King of Castile — and later to the Spanish governor. Alongside this ceremonial function, the tower also served as a prison. The castle complex as a whole includes the City History Museum and the circular castle itself.
