Description
The sea cave at Cala Lliteres is a marine cave on the Mallorcan coastline that you can explore by snorkelling, diving or climbing.
Two Ways In
There are different ways to enter the cave: either through a narrow side entrance where you swim straight in, or by diving beneath a rocky overhang. If you're a confident climber, you can also reach it without getting into the water at all — though that requires sturdy footwear and fingerless gloves, as the small cliff is made of coral and can cause cuts quickly. A diving mask and water shoes for the rocky terrain are generally a good idea; bring an underwater torch and you'll be able to explore the cave's underwater world even more fully.
Light, Water, Rock
What makes the experience truly special is the light: when the sun is out, it pours through the cave's opening and transforms the water into a remarkable play of brightness and reflection. A morning visit is recommended, when the sun's rays fall at their most favourable angle into the interior. The water inside is crystal clear, making it a real treat for anyone with a snorkel. Roughly 50 metres to the west, there's said to be a smaller cave where the water is colder and saltier.
Safety & Conditions
Access is only advisable in calm sea conditions — when there's a stronger swell, caution is essential. Anyone moving along the rocks above should keep a close eye on the steep drop.
Finding It
The cave is located at Carrer Cala Nau 4 in Cala Lliteres, Illes Balears. Access to the water is possible from a nearby bathing spot, from which you can head straight into the sea.
