Description
Closos de Can Gaià is a prehistoric archaeological site in Felanitx, Mallorca, whose remains date back to the Bronze Age.
Bronze Age Up Close
What rises from the ground here is several thousand years old: the settlement of Closos de Can Gaià was established during the Bronze Age on Mallorca and ranks among the oldest preserved settlement remains on the island. Two navetas have been excavated so far — structures that immediately impress with their remarkably thick walls relative to their interior floor area. Those wall depths are precisely what makes the naveta building tradition so legible in person. You can study the stones and masonry at close quarters. Periodic excavation campaigns and educational activities take place on site; visiting on one of those days gives the place an entirely different atmosphere.
Information Boards and QR Codes
Several information panels dotted around the site explain the finds and offer insight into the lives of the people who once lived here. The panels are available in German, among other languages. QR codes are also displayed around the site, though they may not always function reliably — the accompanying material is alternatively available as a PDF download.
Location & Getting There
The archaeological site sits on Carrer del Vapor Santueri within the municipality of Felanitx, not far from Porto Colom. Roadside parking is available nearby, with a short walk from there to the site itself. Access is free and unrestricted.
