THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST OR THE YOGA OF JESUS The second coming of Christ or the yoga of Jesus is based on Yogananda’s work of the same title and also on fragments of another show that we presented at the Teatro Marí a Guerrero more than fifteen years ago, about the Gospel of Saint John. Yogananda’s title does not refer to a literal, physical return of Jesus to the earth, as countless prophecies backed by different interpretations of biblical quotations on this subject claim, but rather to an inner experience of that same consciousness that the historical figure Jesus of Nazareth manifested when he was in the world. Yogananda holds that through defined techniques and scientific methods of meditation we can gain access to that supreme level of Consciousness, through the channel of our own perception and our own consciousness. On this idea he has made an interpretation of the Christian gospels from the perspective of the spiritual wisdom of the ancient yogis of India. An original version of the genuine teachings of Jesus Christ that shows their essential identity with the Vedic tradition and the ancient knowledge of the science of Yoga. My work on this has consisted of presenting that mystical yoga teaching shown by Yogananda, following some episodes from the life and miracles of Jesus, according to the gospels and specifically that of Saint John. The style once again owes much to the theatrical work of the great master Darío Fo, combining humor, gesture, sound, silence and words like the old medieval minstrels. Darío Fo already did this with the apocryphal gospels in his work “El misterio bufo”. I now do a version of the “same mystery”, around which revolve the great questions that theatre has always echoed. The old and sacred art of theatre! It is a happy coincidence to premiere this show at the SOHO de Málaga, where we have already performed shows in the same style on two occasions. This one is very complex and expresses a more daring commitment to combine the desire for deep knowledge of the soul with rhythm, laughter and the playful feeling of theatre celebration. I hope that the audience’s sympathy and the light of the Mediterranean Málaga will be the radiant auspices of this undertaking, and bless us in the effort. Thank you.
