Alec Monopoly
New York City, USAelectronic
Alec Monopoly, born Alec Andon, is a street artist and DJ from New York City with Armenian roots. He rose to fame through his subversive use of iconic pop culture figures – most notably the Monopoly board game character Mr. Monopoly – as satirical commentary on capitalism, wealth, and social hierarchies. The character was inspired by fraudulent stockbroker Bernie Madoff and billion-dollar bank bailouts. Alec painted on abandoned buildings and warehouses across New York City, Los Angeles, and London, deliberately avoiding vandalism of government or private property. High-profile commissions include The W Hotel, Vitamin Water, Avicii, and CoverGirl. He has shown work at Art Basel Miami and held solo exhibitions including at LAB Art Gallery Los Angeles (2013), Above Second Gallery Hong Kong (2015), and his debut solo museum exhibition at MOCA Bangkok (2015). Alongside his visual art career, he has built a reputation as an electronic DJ, performing at prominent clubs and festivals worldwide – including events in St. Tropez and Miami Race Week. Signed to UNVRS, he combines live-painting performances with DJ sets into a distinctive show concept.
