Alejandro Sanz, born Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro on December 18, 1968, in Madrid, grew up in Cádiz and Algeciras, where his Andalusian roots deeply shaped his musical identity. He began playing guitar at age seven and left school at 16 to pursue music full-time. His first recording came in 1989, followed by his major-label debut "Viviendo Deprisa" in 1991, which sold over a million copies in Spain alone. International stardom arrived with the 1997 album "Más" and its defining hit "Corazón Partío," still one of the best-selling Spanish albums ever. Sanz blends flamenco-tinged ballads with pop, rock, funk, R&B, and jazz, a style he continuously expanded through collaborations with Shakira ("La Tortura," 2005), Alicia Keys, Tony Bennett, Laura Pausini, and flamenco legend Paco de Lucía. He holds 24 Latin Grammy Awards and 4 Grammy Awards — more than any other Spanish artist — plus a Guinness World Record for the most wins in the Song of the Year category at the Latin Grammys. His latest studio album "El Disco" was released in 2019; in 2025 he returned with the EP "¿Y Ahora Qué?" on Sony Music Latin, featuring collaborations with Shakira, Manuel Turizo, and Grupo Frontera. Total worldwide album sales exceed 25 million.
