The Banda Municipal de Música de Santanyí is one of Mallorca's oldest musical institutions: the first records of a municipal wind band in Santanyí date back to 1870, giving the ensemble a history of over 170 years. It is considered a cultural symbol and an important educational pillar of the municipality. The majority of its approximately 65 active musicians are students and teachers of the Escola Municipal de Música de Santanyí (EMMS). Over the decades, the band has been shaped by numerous conductors, including Jaume Adrover, Miquel Morell, Andreu Bennàssar, Jordi Rosselló and Miquel Bonet. It is currently directed by Pedro Vallbona, with Mateu Nadal serving as coordinator. The band performs regularly at local and regional events, including the Gran Concert de Sant Jaume and the VI Festival Música de Santanyí. In 2024, it opened the Consell de Mallorca's "Nits d'estiu a Raixa" concert series at the historic Raixa estate, performing works by Ennio Morricone, Klaus Badelt and John Higgins. The band has also performed internationally, representing Santanyí's musical heritage well beyond its local borders.
