Catarres

Els Catarres are a Catalan pop-folk trio from Aiguafreda and Centelles (Catalonia), formed in late 2010 by Èric Vergés, Jan Riera Prats, and Roser Cruells. They broke through in the summer of 2011 with their hit "Jenifer" – a story about a forbidden love between a patriotic Catalan and a "xoni" from Castile – which went viral across the Catalan Countries and amassed over 2.7 million views. Their debut album "Cançons 2011" was released on the Discmedi Blau label. Musically, they describe their sound as Mediterranean pop infused with reggae, country, corrido, and bossa nova. Starting as an acoustic folk act, they gradually evolved into a fuller, more powerful electric sound. Their second single "Rock n Roll" became the sound of summer on Catalan radio and TV. Boasting five Enderrock Awards (including best artist, album, and song), the RNE4 prize for best album of 2014, and the title of Best Touring Band at the ARC Live Music Awards Catalonia, they are among the most celebrated live acts in the Catalan music scene. They have performed at festivals such as Cruïlla Barcelona, Festival Grec, and Fira Mediterrània, and have collaborated with artists including Boikot and Los Chikos del Maiz.
