Claptone
Germanyhouse · deep-house · tech-house · melodic-house
Claptone is a German DJ and producer project that has been a mainstay of the global house scene since emerging around 2011/2012. The defining trademark is a golden plague-doctor mask that keeps the identity firmly concealed. The breakthrough came with „No Eyes" on Berlin-based label Exploited, followed by hits such as „Cream", „Wrong" and „Heartbeat". A remix of Gregory Porter's „Liquid Spirit" became a Beatport bestseller in 2015, the same year Mixmag named Claptone "one of the most visible characters in the global deep house scene".
Three studio albums chart the artistic journey: „Charmer" (2015), featuring vocals from Peter Bjorn and John, JAW and Nathan Nicholson; „Fantast" (2018); and „Closer" (2021), which enlisted Seal and Barry Manilow as collaborators. Sonically, Claptone navigates deep house, tech house and indie-tinged vocals — soulful, groove-driven and always dancefloor-ready.
With his own label Golden Recordings, launched with the single „Euphoria", Claptone expanded into curation. In 2023, the disco-infused „Digging Deeper" with Alison Goldfrapp added another chapter. DJ Mag voted him the highest-placed house DJ in its Top 100 five years running. With over 275 shows annually, he headlines stages including Tomorrowland, Coachella, Rock in Rio, Ultra Music Festival and Creamfields.
