CRO

Mutlangen, Deutschlandpop · hip-hop
Cro, born Carlo Waibel on January 31, 1990, in Mutlangen, Baden-Württemberg, started making his own music at the age of 13, learning piano and guitar along the way. He describes his sound as "raop" – a fusion of rap and pop that sets him apart from traditional hip-hop – and is instantly recognisable by the panda mask he wears at every performance. His 2009 mixtape Trash was followed by the self-produced Meine Musik in 2011, which attracted the attention of German hip-hop artist Kaas. He signed with Chimperator Productions that same year, and his viral debut single "Easy" propelled him to mainstream success. His debut album Raop (2012) reached number one in both Germany and Austria and went double platinum. Melodie (2014) and tru (2017) also topped the German charts. He has collaborated with AnnenMayKantereit, Kitschkrieg and Trettmann, designed a clothing collection for H&M in 2013, and runs his own label Vio Vio. In 2013, he received the Swiss Music Award for Best Album Urban – International.
