El Kuelgue is an Argentine band from the Villa Crespo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, founded in 2004 – originally as a joke, as the band likes to tell. Led by singer and creative force Julián Kartún, the group features keyboards, bass, guitar, saxophone, and drums. Their sound is resolutely genre-fluid: rock, funk, jazz, cumbia, candombe, bossa nova, and tango merge into a signature mix delivered with absurdist humour and theatrical flair on stage.
From their debut album Beatriz (2010), they went on to release Ruli (2013), Cariño Reptil (2015), the EP Fierrín Lado A (2018), and Cuentito (2021), which earned a Carlos Gardel Award nomination for Best Alternative Pop Album. Their sixth studio album Díscolo was most recently presented at a sold-out Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires. Notable collaborations include "La Mirada" with Julieta Venegas, as well as tracks with Mex Urtizberea and Alfredo Casero. Current releases appear on Discos Crack (distributed by Altafonte).
In 2016 El Kuelgue opened two concerts for Paul McCartney at the Estadio Único de La Plata. Since then they have toured regularly across Argentina, Latin America, and Europe – including Mallorca as part of a Spanish tour.
