Ensemble Tramuntana

Ensemble Tramuntana was founded in the summer of 2014 under the direction of Barry Sargent, with the aim of showcasing the musical talent of the Balearic Islands. The ensemble takes its name from the Serra de Tramuntana, the UNESCO World Heritage mountain range of Mallorca. Its formation varies according to the repertoire, ranging from small chamber groups to a full classical orchestra with winds. The ensemble's repertoire spans the 17th to 20th centuries: Baroque and Classical works are performed on period instruments, while 20th-century programmes are presented on classical instruments. Distinguished soloists who have performed with the ensemble include Mallorcan violinist Francisco Fullana, French cellist Emmanuel Bleuse, American-French flautist Charles Zebley, Belgian soprano Sheva Tehoval, and American clarinettist Eric Hoeprich. In Palma, the ensemble has appeared at iconic venues such as Bellver Castle, the Teatre Principal, the Casal Solleric as part of the "Solleric d'Estiu" series, and the Cloister of Sant Francesc. It also co-organised the "Deià Clàssics" festival with the Deià Town Council for three consecutive years. The annual "Nits Clàssiques de la Tramuntana" concert series takes the ensemble across Mallorca — from Valldemossa and Sóller to Pollença and Binissalem — and to Ibiza. Most recently, August 2026 concerts in Binissalem and Port de Sóller featured works by C.P.E. Bach and Mozart.
