Extremoduro
Plasencia, Spanienhard-rock · punk-rock · progressive-rock · rock
Extremoduro were one of the most influential rock bands in Spain – founded in 1987 in Plasencia, Extremadura, by singer and guitarist Roberto Iniesta, known as "Robe". The band's name is a wordplay: "Extremoduro" literally means "hard extreme" and is a direct twist on "Extremadura", their home region.
Their journey started without a large budget: to fund their debut album, they pre-sold tickets that fans could later exchange for the record. In January 1989 they recorded their first demo, which led to deals with Avispa and later Área Creativa. Signing with DRO/Warner Music Group significantly broadened their reach – the album *Deltoya* (1992) featured contributions from ex-Tequila member Salvador Domínguez, among others.
The peak of their career came with *Agila* (1996), which won Best Video at the first Spanish Music Awards. Songs such as "So Payaso", "Golfa", "Jesucristo García" and "Puta" are classics of Spanish rock. Rolling Stone España ranked Extremoduro #6 on its list of the 50 Greatest Spanish Rock Bands.
Robe's lyrics – often described as raw street poetry laden with references to drugs, love and self-destruction – shaped entire generations of listeners. After 32 active years and 11 studio albums, the band disbanded in 2019. Roberto Iniesta passed away on 10 December 2025, aged 63.
