Faithless

Faithless are one of the most influential British electronic bands of their generation. Founded in London in 1995 by Rollo Armstrong, Sister Bliss (Ayalah Bentovim), Maxi Jazz (Maxwell Fraser) and Jamie Catto, they described their own sound as a cross between trip-hop and techno, layered with house, trance and dub influences. Their debut album "Reverence" (1996) was released on Rollo's own Cheeky Records label and built an underground following, with the single "Insomnia" marking their breakthrough. The second album "Sunday 8PM" (1998) – Mercury Prize-nominated – brought them to a mainstream audience, and "God Is a DJ" became a defining club anthem. Jamie Catto departed after that album; Zoë Johnston joined for "Outrospective". Across their career, Faithless released seven Top 10 singles – including "We Come 1" – and three number-one albums on Sony/Arista. As a live act, they were pioneers of stadium dance music, headlining Glastonbury four times (including the Pyramid Stage in 2002) and receiving two Brit Award nominations for Best UK Dance Act. Lead vocalist Maxi Jazz passed away in December 2022 at the age of 65. Their most recent studio album, "All Blessed" (2020), addressed themes of immigration and social politics.
