FERA

FERA is the latest solo project from Egyptian composer and multi-instrumentalist Maurice Louca, whose self-titled album was released in May 2025 on Simsara Records. The nine-track record fuses psychedelic Egyptian shaabi, cosmic jazz, and experimental sound into a dense, hypnotic sonic world — built on polyrhythmic grooves, violin, synthesizers, custom-built microtonal guitars, and percussion. Louca is one of the most distinctive voices on Egypt's thriving experimental arts scene and has previously collaborated with projects such as Lekhfa, The Dwarfs of East Agouza, and the Elephantine ensemble. Live, FERA performs in two adaptable formats: as a duo with Louca on guitar and electronics alongside Ayman Asfour on violin, or as an expanded ensemble. The music consciously moves between structured composition and improvisation, reflecting Louca's genre-defying approach that has earned him recognition well beyond Egypt's borders.
