Finch is a post-hardcore quintet from Temecula, California, formed on September 17, 1999. The band – Nate Barcalow, Alex Linares, Randy Strohmeyer, Alex Pappas, and Derrek Doherty – began as a Deftones tribute band before developing their own sound, blending the heaviness of Deftones and Hum with the pop sensibilities of Jimmy Eat World and Blink-182. In 2001 they signed to Drive-Thru Records after guitarist Strohmeyer sent a demo to the label, where their debut EP "Falling Into Place" sold over 6,000 copies rapidly. Their debut album "What It Is to Burn" (2002) became a landmark of the screamo and post-hardcore genre and is widely regarded as a classic. A slot on the Warped Tour significantly expanded their fanbase. After a more experimental phase and a temporary breakup, Finch reunited in 2008. Further releases include "Say Hello to Sunshine" (2005) and "Back to Oblivion" (2014, via Tragic Hero Records). Finch are recognized as founding fathers of the screamo genre, whose influence continues to resonate across the scene today.
