Heino, born Heinz Georg Kramm on December 13, 1938, in Düsseldorf, is one of Germany's best-selling musicians of all time, having sold over 50 million records. Instantly recognisable by his deep baritone voice, platinum-blonde hair, and trademark dark sunglasses (worn due to an eye condition), he launched his professional career in 1961 as part of the OK Singers trio before releasing his self-titled debut album in 1966. Throughout the 1970s he charted consistently with Schlager and Volksmusik albums, including the gold-certified "Hurra, wir fahr'n ins Grüne" (1978). His most remarkable reinvention came in 2013 with "Mit freundlichen Grüßen", a covers album featuring Rammstein, Die Ärzte, and Peter Fox, which topped the German charts and went gold – his first ever number-one album. The 2014 follow-up "Schwarz blüht der Enzian" presented classic Volksmusik in a rock and metal setting. Spanning more than six decades of live performance, Heino remains a cornerstone of German popular culture and a regular presence at major events and folk-music festivals.
