Ikke Hüftgold, born Matthias Distel on 17 September 1976 in Limburg an der Lahn, took an unconventional road to pop stardom. After finishing school in 1996, completing civil service in elderly care, and running a landscaping business, he taught himself several instruments and fronted rock bands including Scarabäus and Marius until 2006. From 2007 he wrote and produced children's audio plays before discovering his calling in party schlager. His stage name – a playful nod to the German word for "love handles" – perfectly captures his tongue-in-cheek persona. Musically he fuses traditional schlager with contemporary electronic production, built around comedic and often deliberately crude lyrics designed for maximum crowd participation. Tracks such as "Nummer Eins", "Engel", "Sauftourist" and "Bumsbar" exemplify his approach. Collaborators include Kreisligalegende, Isi Glück, Almklausi, Lorenz Büffel, Die Draufgänger and DJ Robin. He is a regular on the festival circuit in Germany and Austria and a fixture at Mallorca's Bierkönig.
