James Rhodes

James Rhodes, born on 6 March 1975 in London, is a British-Spanish concert pianist, author and television presenter. His path to music was anything but conventional: after dropping out of university in Edinburgh, a year working at Burger King in Paris and a psychology degree at University College London, he spent five years in the City before returning to the piano at 28. His debut album "Razor Blades, Little Pills and Big Pianos" appeared in 2009, and in 2010 he became the first core classical artist ever signed to Warner Bros. Records. His repertoire spans Bach, Beethoven and other classical masters, interpreted with striking directness and personal conviction. Rhodes has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall London, Teatro Real Madrid, Palau de la Música Barcelona, the Liceu, Musikverein Vienna and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg – and is one of the few classical artists to have appeared at outdoor festivals such as Latitude and Sónar. His memoir "Instrumental" (2015) became a widely discussed bestseller in the UK. Today Rhodes lives in Madrid, is actively involved in campaigning for the protection of minors against sexual abuse in Spain, and hosts the podcast "En Clave de Rhodes" on Cadena SER.
