Jan Blomqvist (born Jan Freter in 1982 in Ahnsbeck, Lower Saxony) is one of Germany's most distinctive electronic artists. He grew up playing guitar and listening to Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones before discovering Berlin's techno scene at the age of 21 while studying aerospace technology. Bartending at clubs by night, he developed his signature sound: minimal beats layered with analog synths, piano, and his own vocals — a style he coined "concert techno."
His breakthrough came in 2011 when he played to 3,000 people at the Fusion Festival and released his first singles on Philip Bader's Dantze label. A collaboration with Oliver Koletzki ("The Devil in Me," 2012) and ties to Stil vor Talent followed, while a rooftop concert at Berlin's Weekend Club in 2012 garnered millions of views on YouTube. Playing up to 100 shows a year, he has performed at Coachella three times and become a mainstay at Burning Man. His 2018 album "Disconnected" drew inspiration from the Nevada desert experience. In 2024 he founded his own label, also called Disconnected, and in February 2025 released the album "Mute." He now lives in Switzerland with his family.
