Kapo, born Juan David Loaiza Sepúlveda on December 15, 1997, in Zaragoza, Antioquia, grew up in El Cabuyal near Cali. From an early age he sang for passers-by at his family's gas station, and at 13 he recorded his first rap track, "Yo Tengo Un Sueño." At 16 he sold his motorcycle to fund a music video and a move to Bogotá, where he appeared on the celebrity impersonation show "Yo Me Llamo" as Puerto Rican rapper Cosculluela. He then spent two years touring Panama as a background vocalist for Dominican reggaeton artist Mr. Saik. In 2019 Kapo signed with La Industria Inc. — home to Nicky Jam and Manuel Turizo — releasing early singles like "Pelinegra" with Nánpa Básico. His international breakthrough came with "Ohnana," cementing his place in the reggaeton and Afrobeat scene. Further standout releases include "Uwaie" and "ILY" with Myke Towers (over 11 million YouTube views in one month), plus "ALOH ALOH" (over 18 million views). Collaborations with Manuel Turizo ("Qué Pecao"), Greeicy ("A veces besos") and Danny Ocean ("Imagínate") highlight his growing stature. He recently took home the Lo Nuestro Award for Best New Artist and has earned multiple RIAA certifications.
