La Planta

The La Planta – real name Nicolás Choca – is a Uruguayan cumbia singer and songwriter born in 1995. He launched his music project in 2014, with early releases on the MAMP SONGS label. Blending traditional cumbia with modern Latin sounds, he steadily built a fanbase across Uruguay and Argentina from 2020 onward. Hits such as "Mil Preguntas" (No. 10 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100) and "A Prueba de Balas" (No. 27) cemented his commercial breakthrough. Further standout tracks include "Quiero Llorar" (with MYA), "Lo Mismo Que A Mi," and "Ojitos Chiquititos" (with La Kuppe and Pushi), which weaves together cumbia, bachata, and reggaeton. In 2024, he teamed up with young Argentine star Valentino Merlo for "Hoy" – a cumbia reinterpretation of a classic by Gian Marco, famously covered by Gloria Estefan – which topped the Billboard Argentina chart and featured in Billboard's Global No. 1s. His music is defined by distinctive guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and heartfelt lyrics about love and human relationships.
