Los Cafres are pioneers of roots reggae in Spanish. Founded in 1987 in a pub in the Barrio Norte district of Buenos Aires, the band brought together musicians from various projects, resulting in an unstable early line-up and sporadic gigs. In 1989 they temporarily disbanded, with several members leaving Argentina. Reuniting in 1992, they relaunched with renewed energy. Their debut album "Frecuencia Cafre" brought them widespread recognition in the mid-1990s. "Instinto" (1995), followed by "Instinto DUB" — Argentina's first-ever dub album — set new standards for the genre; Rolling Stone Argentina later named it the best reggae album in Argentine music history. "Quién da más?" (2004) marked their breakthrough to mainstream audiences. Further releases including "Luna Park" (2006), "Barrilete" and "Hombre Simple" (both 2007), and the double album "El Paso Gigante" (2011) cemented their status. Their catalogue spans 14 studio albums on Popart Discos. Fronted by vocalist Guillermo Bonetto, their best-known tracks include "Tus Ojos", "Bastará" and "Secreto Mío". Los Cafres have toured extensively across Latin America, performing at venues ranging from small clubs to the iconic Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires.
