Matthieu Saglio is a French cellist and composer who has been living in Valencia, Spain, since 2000 – a city that has profoundly shaped his musical universe. Classically trained, he is one of the pioneers of introducing the cello into flamenco, most notably with his band Jerez-Texas, which has been touring worldwide since 2002. Over the years he has continuously expanded his palette, weaving together flamenco, jazz, early music, baroque and West African influences into a wholly distinctive sound.
His album "Ahlam" (2018) – recorded with the trio NES alongside singer Nesrine Belmokh and percussionist David Gadea – was released on the prestigious German label ACT, blending Arabic flavours with jazz improvisation. In 2020 he released "El camino de los vientos", again on ACT, featuring guests such as Nguyên Lê, Nils Petter Molvaer, Carles Benavent and Vincent Peirani; the album surpassed 3 million Spotify streams. His 2023 release "Voices" further demonstrates his genre-crossing artistry.
Saglio serves as an artist ambassador for the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and has performed in more than 40 countries. On the Balearic Islands he is a familiar presence: in summer 2026 he appears, among other dates, at the SONSDENIT festival in Muro, Mallorca.
