Ministry Of Sound
London, United Kingdomhouse · techno · electronic · dance
Ministry of Sound was founded in London in 1991 by Justin Berkmann, inspired by a formative visit to New York's Paradise Garage. The guiding principle: a club where music and sound come first. Early sets by house and garage legends Larry Levan, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, Tony Humphries and Paul Oakenfold cemented its reputation as the UK's foremost dance music destination.
Today the venue spans four rooms, programming house, techno, bass, melodic, grime and afrobeats. In parallel, Ministry of Sound grew into a global label powerhouse: in 2009, all artist imprints were consolidated under "Ministry of Sound Recordings." Key signings include Example, Wretch 32, DJ Fresh and London Grammar, whose debut album *If You Wait* went platinum in the UK. The label back catalogue features era-defining tracks such as Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction," Eric Prydz's "Call On Me" and Duke Dumont's "Need U (100%)." Acquired by Sony Music in 2017, the label is now home to Pete Tong, London Grammar and Doja Cat, among others. In 2001, the club received the DJ Awards Special Award for Outstanding Contribution. Ministry of Sound also organises international tours and events, including appearances in Ibiza.
