Miquela Lladó

Miquela Lladó is a singer and composer from Palma de Mallorca who has been active as a singer-songwriter since 1967, initially under the name Miquelina Lladó. Her career is closely tied to the Nova Cançó movement, the Catalan-language singer-songwriter tradition that played a vital cultural role across the Balearic Islands and Catalonia from the 1960s onwards. She founded the groups Música Nostra and Siurell Elèctric, which reinterpreted Mallorcan folk music and became reference points for the island's traditional music scene. As a member of the ensemble Alea, she explored the musical heritage of the three Mediterranean cultures – Christian, Jewish, and Muslim singing traditions – alongside Rosa Zaragoza. Her album *Com un ventall* (2004) marked a return to her singer-songwriter roots, accompanied by Toni Pastor (guitar, lute) and David Runnion (cello). In 2007, the Palma de Mallorca City Council honoured her for her contribution to the preservation of traditional Mallorcan music. In 2000, she received the Cerverí de Gerona award for her song text *Fandango del Jardí*. Since 1980, she has recited the poem *La Colcada* at the Festa de l'Estendard. She has also collaborated with the Orquestra Simfònica de Balears.
