Mocedades

Mocedades – whose name simply means "youth" in Spanish – are one of Spain's most celebrated vocal groups. Founded in 1969 in Bilbao, in the Basque Country, the group grew out of the Uranga family: sisters Amaya, Izaskun and Estíbaliz, joined by their brothers and friends Carlos Zubiaga, José Ipiña and Javier Garay – a line-up remembered as the six founding "historic" members. Composer and producer Juan Carlos Calderón discovered them, gave them their name and wrote most of their biggest songs. The group's international breakthrough came at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest in Luxembourg: their entry "Eres tú" finished second, yet went on to become a worldwide hit – a rare achievement for European pop at the time. Throughout the 1970s, Mocedades released a string of successful albums on the Zafiro label, including *La Otra España* (1975), *El Color de tu Mirada* (1976) and *Kantaldia* (1978), their first album recorded entirely in Basque. In 1980 they signed to CBS and worked with producer Oscar Gómez. Despite numerous line-up changes the group remained active, and since 2014 two official Mocedades bands have co-existed – one led by Izaskun Uranga and one by Javier Garay. Most recently they released the EP *Infinito* (Fonovisa/Universal Music Mexico), featuring freshly arranged classics in duets with Gloria Trevi, Ana Torroja and David Bisbal.
