Natalia Gabunia

Natalia Gabunia, born in 1968 in Tbilisi, Georgia, comes from a remarkable musical family: her father, Nodar Gabunia, was a celebrated pianist and composer who studied under Aram Khachaturian. At just twelve years old she made her solo debut with the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra, performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto live on national television. Her studies took her to the conservatories of Tbilisi and Moscow before a scholarship brought her to Germany after graduating in 1990. In 1992 she enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, subsequently moving to Utrecht for her postgraduate studies. Amsterdam has been her home ever since. As a soloist she has performed with orchestras in Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Georgia and Poland, and was a member of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra as well as a guest with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In chamber music she has collaborated with Vadim Repin, Maurice Bourgue, Nelson Goerner and pianist Nino Gvetadze. In 2015 she contributed to the seven-CD box set "The Thomas de Hartmann Project". She has also recorded her father's works, including his violin concerto with the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra. At the Festival de Música Clásica Port de Sóller in Mallorca she performed alongside soprano Evelina Dobračeva and pianist Alexander Malter.
