Orchester der Akademie 1830

The Orchester der Acadèmia 1830 is a chamber orchestra from Palma de Mallorca, founded in 2011 with the aim of bringing the great classical repertoire to the Balearic Islands. Under the direction of Fernando Marina, it brings together young professional musicians from the island into a flexible and versatile ensemble. Its debut concert took place in April 2011 at the Capdepera Auditorium with a Beethoven programme, featuring Andreu Riera as guest soloist. The orchestra's repertoire spans Baroque music – including Vivaldi and C. P. E. Bach – through the Viennese Classical period to major Romantic works such as Mahler's symphonies. Since 2012, Acadèmia 1830 has run its own concert season, expanded in 2017/18 with a chamber music series. The ensemble performs regularly at the island's leading venues and festivals: the Teatro Principal Palma, Manacor Auditorium, Teatro de Santanyí, Bellver Castle, the Festival Joan Ordinas Tous, and the JJMM festivals in Capdepera and Ciutadella. In August 2025, Mahler's 5th Symphony is on the programme at Bellver Castle. Alongside the orchestra, the musical association also maintains a choir, enabling both vocal and instrumental performances, separately or combined.
