Ponent Big Band is a jazz ensemble faithful to the classic big band format: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section form the backbone of their sound. The group brings together experienced musicians from diverse backgrounds — among them trumpeter Drew Bardagjy, who grew up near Washington, D.C., started playing trumpet in third grade, earned a degree in jazz trumpet performance, and spent over four years in a nationally touring show band. Cary Davids, born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and trombonist Dave McDonagh round out the ensemble. Inspired by legends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Maynard Ferguson, the band honours the heritage of the big band era while also dedicating itself to supporting young musicians. Their repertoire combines swing-based arrangements with the live energy that only a large ensemble can deliver.
