QÂNÂT

QÂNÂT is a music project rooted in Mallorca that weaves together Mediterranean, Mesopotamian, and Persian sound traditions into contemporary world music. The name references the ancient Near Eastern irrigation system — an image of the underground current that connects cultures across borders. The ensemble comprises three musicians: Pegah Khoei (vocals, tar, bendir, daf), Tomeu Gomila (vocals, accordion, lithophone), and José Miguel Puigserver "Puter" (double bass, kantele, charango). QÂNÂT bridges ancient Balearic work songs — once sung in the fields of the islands — with the modal textures of Central Asian music from Iran, Turkey, Tajikistan, and the historical region of Khorasan. A key inspiration is the melodic kinship between these Balearic field songs and Byzantine chant. The project focuses on original compositions and collaborations that connect oral tradition with the present day — a musical conversation between cultures, carried by ancestral sounds and collective memory.
