RÁFAGA

RÁFAGA is one of the most prominent bands in Argentine cumbia. Founded in 1994 in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Parque Chacabuco, the group quickly built a devoted following in the capital's cumbia clubs. Their live shows are instantly recognisable thanks to medieval costumes and bold jewellery. In 1997 and 1998 they performed at the Midem Latino de Musica in Miami, earning international acclaim and opening the door to tours across Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Spain (1999). A North American tour followed in 2001, with dates in Canada, New York, Washington and Miami, and the band went on to perform in Romania, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, China and Australia. Anthems such as "La Luna y Tú", "Mentirosa", "Ráfaga de Amor" and "Una Cerveza" have been staples on Latin dance floors for decades. Their debut album *Soplando Fuerte* launched their recording career; the label Leader Music later released several compilations including *Grandes Éxitos* (2001) and *Lo Mejor de Ráfaga* (2003). In recent years the band has collaborated with María Becerra, J Mena, Flor Alvarez and Robleis, proving their continued relevance to younger audiences. The current lineup, fronted by vocalist Ariel Puchetta, remains active today.
