Roger Mas i Solé was born on 9 December 1975 in Solsona (Lleida, Catalonia) and is one of the most acclaimed Catalan-language singer-songwriters of his generation. Growing up in a family of musicians, he began learning instruments at the age of five under the guidance of his grandfather Joan Solé i Costa. By twelve he was seriously studying clarinet and saxophone, and from 1994 onwards he explored world and ethnic music under the influence of Luis Paniagua.
His career took off in 1996 when he won the Èxit Award from Catalunya Ràdio. His debut album *Les flors del somni* (1997, Picap) earned the Altaveu Award for Best Song Lyrics. The follow-up *Casafont* (1999, Picap) won multiple Enderrock Awards, including Best Singer-Songwriter Album. *Mística domèstica* (2005, K Indústria Cultural) added the ARC Award and further Enderrock prizes to his tally.
His music weaves together modern pop structures, traditional Catalan folk music, and ancient world sounds. In 2012 he collaborated with the renowned Cobla Sant Jordi – Ciutat de Barcelona ensemble on the album *Ciutat de Barcelona*. He performs regularly at major festivals, including Barcelona's Festival Grec.
