Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band
Louisville, Kentucky, USAamericana · country · folk · indie-folk
Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band is the solo project of American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Davis, who grew up in the Louisville, Kentucky area and is now based in Jeffersonville, Indiana. For over 15 years Davis was the driving force behind State Champion, a guitar-bass-drums-violin quartet, before closing that chapter with the 2019 album "Send Flowers". Alongside his music, he founded the independent label Sophomore Lounge, co-founded the Cropped Out festival, and plays in Tropical Trash.
With the Roadhouse Band, Davis gives himself greater freedom in arrangements – the shape of a song is only decided once the band is in the studio. The debut album "Dancing on the Edge" (2023, Sophomore Lounge) – a sprawling double LP of seven expansive tracks, recorded with Seth Manchester at Machines With Magnets (Pawtucket, RI) and mastered at Tokyo's JVC Mastering Center – was widely praised as one of the best records of 2023. Its follow-up "New Threats from the Soul" (2025) has been called a masterpiece and major breakthrough by multiple outlets: a dark, poetic work linking Americana noir with literary references to Harry Crews. The band tours actively across the US, with recent shows at the Big Ears Festival and Portland's Mississippi Studios.
