Sido – born Paul Hartmut Würdig on 30 November 1980 in East Berlin – is one of the most influential German rappers of his generation. He interprets his stage name as "super-intelligentes Drogenopfer" (super-intelligent drug victim); it originally stood for "Scheiße in dein Ohr" (shit into your ear), a line from his early track "Terroarr". Active since 1997, Sido first released demos alongside B-Tight under the name Royal TS through the Berlin underground label Royal Bunker. His breakthrough came in 2004 with the debut album "Maske" on Aggro Berlin, which sold over 100,000 copies in less than a month. The standout track "Mein Block" depicts life in Märkisches Viertel, a deprived district of Berlin. That same year he won a prestigious German music award for Best Newcomer.
