Taghi Akhbari

Teheran, Iranclassical · world · sacred music · Persian classical
Taghi Akhbari is one of the most distinguished interpreters of classical Persian singing. Trained in Tehran and Paris within the Persian tradition, he later settled in Tours — France's oldest Christian city — where he deepened his craft, studying lyrical vocal technique at the opera and medieval chant under Jean-Paul Rigaud. The striking similarities between Gregorian chant and Persian sacred singing became the heart of his artistic journey. Since 2007 he has regularly collaborated with early-music ensembles such as Doulce Mémoire and Beatus; in 2009 he recorded the album "Laudes" with Doulce Mémoire. He has also founded his own traditional Persian music ensemble and shares his expertise at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva. With the trio Delgoshâ, alongside musicians Nder Aghakhni (strings) and Pierre Blanchut (percussion), he builds bridges between Persian and Western mysticism, drawing on texts from Hildegard of Bingen to Saint John of the Cross. On Mallorca, he presents "The Conversation of the Birds," a concert-recital based on the poetry of the Persian mystic Farid ud-Din Attar, telling of the birds' journey toward the mythical Simurgh.
