The Cicely Satellites

The Cicely Satellites are an experimental rock band from Mallorca, active since the 1990s. Originally known as Satellites, they adopted their current name in 2013. Their sound blends experimental rock with psychedelia, drawing on influences such as The Doors, Sonic Youth, and Jane's Addiction. In 1996 they recorded their first two demos with Sami Yaffa, former bassist of Finnish cult band Hanoi Rocks. The following year they won the Mallorcan "Pop Rock" competition, using the prize money to record their debut album "The Blue Box" on the label Primeros Pasitos. They went on to support Luna on the island and performed at Radio 3 concerts and festivals including FIB, Festimad, and BAM, as well as shows in France. Around 2000, three mini-LPs were recorded in New York. Over subsequent years their style evolved to become more energetic, with industrial influences and punk overtones. Their self-titled record "The Cicely Satellites" – a 10-song album – was recorded in Felanitx, Palma, and London, and produced by Gordon Raphael, known for producing the early Strokes albums. The band currently consists of six members.
