The Exbats are an American garage rock band from Bisbee, Arizona, formed in 2009 as a father-daughter project: Inez McLain (drums, vocals) and Kenny McLain (guitar, vocals) started making music together when Inez was ten years old. Bassist Bobby Carlson rounds out the core lineup – for their Mallorca shows they perform as an expanded sextet.
Long past their beginnings as a duo called Numbats, The Exbats have developed a distinctive lo-fi sound shaped by 1960s girl groups, 1970s punk, psychedelia and blue-eyed soul, balancing raw energy with catchy melodies. Through Memphis-based label Goner Records and cult imprint Burger Records, they have released several records – including *Kicks, Hits and Fits* (Burger, 2020), *Now Where Were We* (Goner, 2021) and *Song Machine* (Goner, 2023). Tracks like "Ghost in the Record Store", "Hey Hey Hey" and "Funny Honey" are hallmarks of their songwriting style.
The Exbats have become a firm favourite at Mallorca's RUDY sessions concert series: exactly three years after their debut quartet performance, they return to La Movida Café Concierto in Palma – this time as a sextet.
