The Uptown Band was founded in 2006 by singer, saxophonist and full-time musician Erich Cawalla in Reading, Pennsylvania. A Shippensburg University graduate, Cawalla has been a professional musician and booking agent since 2004. The band quickly established itself as one of the most sought-after live acts in the northeastern United States, performing at over 2,000 shows spanning festivals, corporate events, weddings and charity functions for audiences ranging from military officials and governors to Disney legend Jodi Benson. Musically, The Uptown Band covers a wide spectrum of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, pop and rock. Their debut album *Waiting for Her* was released in 2008, followed by *Heart, Soul, Body & Mind* in 2014. Guest musicians include Will Lee (CBS Orchestra, Late Show with David Letterman), Tower of Power founding member Greg Adams, and percussionist Doc Gibbs. Singer Jenifer Kinder is a regular co-performer. The band won "Best Variety/Dance Band" at the Central Pennsylvania Music Awards in both 2022 and 2024 (five total nominations), and has also earned the Gigmasters Lifetime Award and WeddingWire Couples' Choice Award.
