Amsterdam, Netherlandspop · levenslied · folk
Dries Roelvink, born on 1 January 1959 in Amsterdam's Jordaan district, is one of the most recognisable figures of the Dutch Levenslied – a folk-rooted genre telling stories of everyday life, love and working-class Amsterdam. Raised by a football-coach father and a singing mother, he grew up immersed in the tradition of the Jordaanlied. After winning a talent contest on Amsterdam's Rembrandtplein in 1985, he signed his first record deal with Phonogram, debuting with the single "Maria Magdalena". Since then he has released nine albums, two DVDs and 35 singles. Notable releases include "Ik Kom Eraan (Route Du Soleil)" and the romantic duet "Plaatje Van Een Vrouw" with fellow Dutch singer Tino Martin. Beyond music, Roelvink appeared in the 2008 feature film *I Love Dries*, directed by Tom Six, and starred in several reality TV series. More recently, viral TikTok clips introduced him to a new, international audience. As a live act he is a regular at parties, corporate events and festivals across the Netherlands.
