Theatre: Cròniques d'un mig estiu - Club Pollença

Cròniques d'un mig estiu Cia. La Fornal d'espectacles (Balearic Islands) Friday, 13 November at 8 pm Club Pollença Maria Antònia Oliver made her name with Cròniques d’un mig estiu, her first novel. In it, she brings to life an eleven-year-old boy who leaves rural life behind to work as a bellboy in a newly built hotel on the Mallorcan coast. It is the early sixties, and everything seems possible: progress, money, a different future. Through the child's eyes, we discover a new and fascinating world, but also a profoundly unequal one. The hotel becomes a microcosm where workers, tourists and dreams of prosperity coexist, while outside, the landscape and way of life begin to disappear. Back in the seventies, when Maria Antònia Oliver became known through this novel, she was already warning us that we had set out on a path that could lead to disaster. Sixty years later, that summer lingers like an open wound. The story of that boy—now an adult—confronts us with uncomfortable questions: – What remains of who we were when progress transforms everything? – At what point did we stop being the protagonists in our own land? Wonderful. Congratulations.” Guillermo A
