Balneario Illetas – Beach Clubs in Mallorca

Balneario Illetas

Cala ses Illetes

Cala ses Illetesbeach club

The sound that starts the day: the gentle lapping of small waves against the rocky shoreline of Illetas, the scent of pine trees rising steeply above the cove, and somewhere from the kitchen the first breath of sofrito. Since 1958, Balneario Illetas has welcomed guests at this exact spot, right on the turquoise water of Cala ses Illetes, one of the most beautiful small coves in the south-west of Mallorca. What began as a traditional bathing establishment now spans more than 6,500 square metres — known locally simply as "Las Terrazas" for its multiple sea-facing terraces that open like steps toward the bay.

Concept

Designed by Mallorcan architect Francisco Casas Llompart and thoroughly transformed after a comprehensive renovation, Balneario Illetas brings together three things that rarely align so harmoniously on the island: a genuine beachside restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine, a premium beach area with sun loungers, hammocks, and a chill-out zone, and a relaxed atmosphere that draws families, couples, and local residents alike — without ever veering into party-club territory. The restaurant runs year-round; the beach club is a warm-season affair. Guests arriving by private boat are ferried ashore by transfer tender and served food and drinks directly. The same group also runs La Sardina, a more casual cantina concept with a focus on sardines, also in Illetas, as well as Es Port in Puerto de Andratx.

Atmosphere

Crystal-clear water, fine sand, pines lining the back of the cove — nature does most of the heavy lifting here. The terraces are laid out so that almost every seat retains an unobstructed sea view. Mornings are quiet and unhurried: breakfast or brunch on the terrace, the light still low across the water. By midday the place fills — locals from Palma, international residents from Illetas and Calvià, families with children, couples. Afternoon visitors know the game: sun loungers are in demand, and those who want one come early or book ahead. On Saturday early evenings the mood shifts gently: the live format "Arena en los zapatos" brings Soul, Funk, Disco, and Reggae to the terrace — relaxed, never loud, a sundowner programme perfectly suited to the setting. On Tuesday lunchtimes the session repeats as "La Fabrika del Funk."

Cuisine & Drinks

The kitchen is Mediterranean and seasonal, with a clear focus on fresh, locally sourced produce: seafood, grilled meats, salads, and homemade desserts. The traditional paella — served in the pan and portioned at the table by the waitress — is no tourist cliché here but a carefully made dish. Also consistently praised: crème brûlée for dessert and sweet potato fries, both appearing repeatedly in guest accounts. The cocktail bar is the highlight of the evening: Mojitos — including an alcohol-free mocktail version — and further signature cocktails, best enjoyed looking out over the water as the sun drops lower.

For Whom & What Occasions

This is the place for anyone who does not want to choose between a beach day and a proper meal. Families appreciate the sheltered cove and attentive service; couples come for sundowner dinners and sea views; local residents for a relaxed Sunday brunch. Private events — weddings, milestone birthdays, communions, corporate gatherings — have been hosted here for decades; the backdrop of rock, pines, and sea takes care of most of the décor.

Insider Tip

The beach area fills up from midday onward, especially in high season. Arrive early for a lounger, or book one in advance. The venue sits right on the popular cycling route from Palma along the coast — cyclists regularly stop here before pressing on.
