Santuari Nuestra Senyora de Cura - Monastery and place of pilgrimage, Cura

The Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Cura monastery is located at the summit of Mount Puig de Randa in the interior of Mallorca. The free-standing mountain has a height of 543 m and rises from the Mallorcan lowlands.
Santuari de Cura - sanctuary on the mountain
The monastery on Puig de Randa is the second most important place of retreat for pilgrims on the island after Lluc Monastery in the Tramuntana Mountains. The mountainsides are home to three monasteries in total. The Franciscan Monastery of Santuari de Cura is the largest and is located at the highest point.
The monastery originated from a hermitage founded in the 13th century and the portal dates back to 1682. In the courtyard is a cistern, which is mentioned in historical writings from 1564. The centre of the monastery garden has a statue of St. Francis of Assisi. The monastery complex started to go to rack and ruin in the 19th century and was only rebuilt in the early 20th century. Most buildings date back to this time.
Directions to the monastery
The Sanctuary of Nostra Senyora de Cura can be reached via a five-kilometre access road, which starts at the foot of the mountain in the village of Randa. After passing the Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Gràcia Monastery, which consists of only one church and a few outbuildings built in the 15th century, you continue to Ermita de Sant Honorat Hermitage, founded in the 14th century and still inhabited by monks.
From there at the top of the mountain, you will reach the Santuari de Cura monastery. The view over the plain is breathtaking and ranges from the island's capital Palma de Mallorca to Alcúdia in the north of Mallorca. The monks have converted some rooms of the monastery complex into guest rooms, where you can spend the night at reasonable prices.
