Description
The Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca is a historic archive in the old town of Palma, housing documents spanning from the Middle Ages right through to the recent past.
Holdings & Collection
The archive holds documentation relating to the Kingdom of Mallorca from the 13th century to the present day. This includes a dedicated photographic archive that broadens the collection beyond written sources alone. For genealogical and historical research, it is the go-to resource on the island. Access is restricted and requires prior registration.
Cultural Programme & Exhibitions
Alongside its archival work, the building regularly hosts a range of events — including exhibitions, concerts and lecture series. Admission to the exhibitions is free of charge. The venue also provides a setting for conferences and similar cultural formats.
The Building
The building at Carrer de Ramon Llull 3, in the historic heart of Palma, was originally constructed in 1942 by architect Guillem Forteza as a cultural centre. From 1956 onwards, architects Gabriel Alomar and José Ferragut redesigned it in a neo-regional style. A comprehensive renovation in 2014 left the interior bright and fitted out to a modern standard.
